DAVID WILLIS
David Willis is a director and cinematographer drawn to work with atmosphere, character and a slightly off-centre view of the world.
He moves easily between registers - the unsettling, the premium, the deliberately absurd - and shoots what he directs, running each project end-to-end from concept and treatment through cinematography and edit. He works as comfortably as a sole creative as he does leading a small team, on the principle that the thinking and the making aren't separate jobs.
Recent work includes Kuraidesu: a premium Japanese-inspired film shot on an izakaya set built from scratch, a run of character-led films including Live Laugh Love Lager, Altitude Adjustment and Midnight in the Mountains - a found-footage piece that drew more than 25,000 views and Håut Hutt Saunas: a design-led film and architectural photography series
His short film How Things Are Born premiered at Flickerfest 2020 and was a semi-finalist at the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Australian Independent Film Festival.
